The Carolina Publishing Group, which publishes the Florence (S.C.) Morning News, recently hired Huntersville resident Tucker Mitchell as its new regional editor.

Mitchell will direct editorial operations at the Morning News as well as at the four weekly or semi-weekly publications in the market, according to an article in the Morning News.

Mitchell founded Mecklenburg Newspaper Group, which published the then-Huntersville Herald and monthly Mountain Island Monitor, in 2002. He sold the company to Alain Lillie, owner of Carolina Weekly Newspaper Group, in late 2008. Lillie later renamed the Huntersville paper the Herald Weekly and converted the monthly Mountain Island paper to the Mountain Island Weekly.

Mitchell and his wife, Cindy, an operating room nurse, will live in Florence.
