MOORESVILLE – A number of Lake Norman-area builders or projects won awards in September when the N.C. Home Builders Association held its annual STARS Awards program at the Hilton Charlotte Center City Hotel.

The STARS Awards program honors the achievements of builders, associates, realtors, media and advertising professionals, and many others who make major contributions to the residential homebuilding industry from North Carolina and surrounding states.

The competition considered entries from members of more than 60 homebuilder associations across North Carolina and parts of South Carolina, and Lake Norman Homebuilders Association members took prizes, including top honor to EFC Builders and owners Geoff and Deborah Bowen, of Troutman, for the 2010 Distinguished Builder Member of the Year.  Other local winners were:

• Best Single-Family Detached Home with sales price over $1 million, 5,000-10,000 square feet: Zar Custom Homes, Russell Zavatsky, for home in the Peninsula community of Cornelius.

• Best Single-Family Detached Home with sales price over $1 million; more than 10,000 square feet: Kearey Builders and owner John Kearey, of Statesville, for Thakkar residence.

• Best Outstanding Achievement – kitchen relocation/remodel: International Kitchen & Bath and Lisa Carlay, of Davidson.

• Best Special Project-Outdoor Living Spaces: EFC Builders for the Earle residence, Geoff & Deborah Bowen.

• Best Special Project-Marketing: Lake Wylie Home Staging for the Good Samaritan House, Joan Inglis.
