This week’s bulletins from north Mecklenburg-area police and fire departments
Officer investigated by sheriff’s office, suspended
HUNTERSVILLE – Huntersville Police Lt. Kurt Marcus has been put on administrative leave with pay after the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office began an investigating him.
Officials with the Huntersville police and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office declined to release information about the case, but sheriff’s investigators said Marcus has not been charged with any crimes.
A sheriff’s investigator said it is “too early” to release any details. She noted a tip initiated the inquiry. Huntersville officials said they would not comment on another department’s case.
Once the sheriff’s office completes its investigation, Huntersville internal affairs officers will conduct its own inquiry into Marcus, Capt. Michael Kee said. The internal investigation and suspension is department protocol, he said.
Marcus has been with the Huntersville department for 12 years and was working as a patrol commander when his suspension began Sept. 13.
Local media learned about the suspension after an e-mail was sent out, detailing the investigation into Marcus and alleging misconduct toward another Huntersville officer.
Kee called that information “completely untrue.”
District Attorney drops robbery charges
HUNTERSVILLE – Armed robbery charges against Robert Lee Heath have been dropped, the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s office has said.
Attorneys dropped the charges last week against Heath, of 9407 Holly Bend Lane. Calls to the district attorney’s office were not immediately returned.
Heath was arrested Sept. 5 for allegedly robbing a Circle K convenience store with a BB gun and taking three cases of beer.
