• Woodlawn senior Terin Patel-Wilson is a semifinalist in the 47th annual National Achievement Scholarship Program, an academic competition established in 1964 to provide recognition for outstanding black American high school students. The 1,600 semifinalists this year represent approximately 1 percent of the high school juniors who requested consideration in the 2011 National Achievement Scholarship Program when they took the 2009 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Terin, a Mooresville resident and Woodlawn student for the past 8 years, now competes for one of about 800 Achievement Scholarship awards.
• North Meck graduate Kathryn Driest of Davidson was one of 35 students to receive a 2010 Johnson Scholarship to attend Washington and Lee University this fall. The University awards Johnson Scholarships to candidates displaying exceptional academic and personal promise. Driest won the scholarship in competition against about 200 other finalists who participated in on-campus interviews last spring.
• Aaron Marshburn, of Davidson, has been inducted into the University of Georgia chapter of the Blue Key National Honor Society.
The Blue Key National Honor Society recognizes men and women of outstanding character and ability who have achieved distinction for their leadership abilities as well as recognition for scholarship and service, and membership in the organization is considered one of the highest honors on campus.
