DAVIDSON – Davidson Mayor John Woods and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library system recognized Davidson Day fourth-grader Kate Roberts on Oct. 13 for her role in helping to save the town’s library branch.

In June, Mecklenburg County announced that the branch would close July 1 due to budget cuts. When Kate heard the news, she decided to do her part to save the library and collected donations door-to-door.

After an encounter with Kate, Mayor Woods later formed a committee of Davidson citizens who organized a fundraiser to save their library.

Two weeks ago, Woods thanked Kate for “getting the ball rolling” and raising around $1,000.
