DAVIDSON– Davidson IB parents, staff, students and alumnae filled the right side of the Hopewell High School auditorium Thursday night, Oct. 7 for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools community forum.
District staff and school board members scheduled the forum to discuss the pros and cons of proposed changes to seven north Mecklenburg schools with community members, including possibly closing the Davidson IB school building and moving the program to J.M. Alexander Middle School in Huntersville. The move could save about $700,000 next year, staff members estimate.
During the evening’s break-out sessions, in which each school met separately with members of CMS staff to discuss proposed changes to their schools, Davidson IB filled three separate classrooms, and when the schools reconvened for an open microphone period, 15 people stood to speak in favor of keeping Davidson IB in its current location on South Street in Davidson.
The board votes on proposed changes Nov. 9.
