CORNELIUS – In honor of National Fire Prevention Week, the Cornelius fire department visited Discovery Village Preschool on Thursday, Oct. 7.
If there’s a fire, you “get low and go,” Fireman David Boyd reminded the students. He and fellow firemen John Lang, Greg Marron and Tommy Gavin discussed when to call 911; how to stop, drop and roll; and the importance of not playing with fire. They showed the students the different parts of their fire truck and the different articles of clothing they wear when responding to a fire. They also dressed teacher Clara Bullard in full gear to show the students that firemen may look scary, but they’re not.
“So if a fire man comes to your house, don’t be scared,” Boyd said.
To the children’s delight, the firemen left with lights flashing and sirens blaring.
